Anneka Rice

Anneka is an award-winning broadcaster, a painter, and, more recently, a stand-up comedian. She writes travel piece for The Mail on Sunday and regular columns for The Independent.

She started her career on a 2-year BBC training course and then worked for The World Service on The World Today and Outlook. She worked for a while at Thames TV and then shot to fame as the Sky-Runner in Channel 4’s “Treasure Hunt”. This firmly established her as Britain’s Action Girl with ratings of 8 million. The programme first aired in December 1982 and 2023 saw the show’s much anticipated reprise, airing on Channel 5 in Spring.

Anneka has presented numerous series including Sporting Chance BBC2, The Holiday Programme BBC1, TVAM, Wish You Were Here ITV, Capital Woman ITV, Combat ITV, and hosted The Royal Variety Performance and numerous other shows. She has produced a series of books and videos called The Adventure Series; devised the award-winning “Challenge Anneka” for BBC-l, brought out a range of jumpsuits and was immortalized in Madame Tussauds.

Her Radio 4 work includes The Waiting Game (a nine-part series on pregnancy), In the Life Drawing Class, Loose Ends, Where’s the F in News, A Good Read, My Teenage Diary and the award-winning podcast Fortunately. Playing herself in The Archers over several episodes. Stand-up comedy with The Clemmie Hart Years, about her life as a secret agent, recorded at the Backyard Comedy Club. And more recently Help! My Head’s in Wookey Hole, a frantic search for her missing Madame Tussauds’ waxwork head.

Radio 2 work includes the Saturday Breakfast Show which she presented for ten years, Pick of the Week, Friday Night Is Music Night, The Arts Show, Sunday Love Songs, Anneka on Sunday, Anneka’s 80s and 90s Treasures and Junior Choice, which she presents live on Christmas Day.  Documentaries include Paint it Black with Ronnie Wood, a two-hour odyssey through Ronnie’s painting and musical life.

Recent TV work includes Harry Hill’s Alien Fun Capsule, House of Games, This Morning, Antiques Road Trip, Celebrity Hunted, Would I Lie To You?, Celebrity Portrait Artist of the Year for Sky Arts, Celebrity Bake Off and Strictly Come Dancing.
